Brimsham Green School – Keeping Children Safe
Brimsham Green School is committed to Keeping Children1 Safe In Education, which supports the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children which covers: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Where a child is suffering significant harm, or is likely to do so, action should be taken to protect that child (such action might be taken under section 47 and section 44 of the Children Act 1989). Action should also be taken to promote the welfare of a child in need of additional support, even if they are not suffering harm or are at immediate risk (such action might be taken under section 17 of the Children Act 1989).
The role of Brimsham Green School: Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. School staff are particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. School forms part of the wider safeguarding system for children. This system is described in statutory guidance from the Department for Education: Working Together to Safeguard Children. Brimsham Green School works with social care, the police, health services and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
The Brimsham Green school designated safeguarding lead is Ms J Hewitt (Deputy Headteacher) jhewitt@brimsham.com who will provide support to staff members to carry out their safeguarding duties and who will liaise closely with other services such as children’s social care. Ms J Hewitt is supported by the deputy Safeguarding Leads:
