Why Learn an Instrument?
Instrument Taster sessions: Thursday 12th and Friday 13th September, lunchtime in the bandroom (m15)
“Pupils who learn musical instruments outperform students who do not learn music in areas of intelligence, developmental skills, academic performance and social skills. Furthermore, they are able to transfer their music knowledge and skills to other areas of academic excellence.” (British Journal of Music Education)
As we start the new academic year, it is also a great time to start to learn an instrument! Music at Brimsham aims to gives students the opportunities and experiences to begin a life-time love of music. The primary reason for learning an instrument is that it is fun! It also inspires a love of learning, develops skills to work with others whilst helping to build relationships, develops resilience, aspiration, engagement and confidence and provides daily opportunities for success and achievement.
We offer a rich and varied musical curriculum and extensive opportunities for students regardless of their previous background or experience. There are numerous bands, choirs Music Technology-based clubs and other groups to get involved with.
Learning an instrument has been proven to have benefits on brain development. This youtube further explains some of the benefits of learning an instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0JKCYZ8hng
At Brimsham, we have a fantastic team of visiting instrumental and vocal teachers across a wide range of instruments and we are able to loan out instruments for beginners. This means parents and carers can be sure that a student is committed to their instrument before making a purchase.
During the lunchtimes on Thursday 12th September and Friday 13th September, we are holding instrument taster sessions in m15 (bandroom). Students can come along and try a number of different instruments – no prior experience needed! Our supportive and brilliant older students will be on hand to help beginners and discuss their musical experiences.
