HOME ECONOMICS: CHILD DEVELOPMENT GCSE (OCR J441) 

This is a practical course which will give you the opportunity to complete assignments and activities based on realistic situations linked to working in childcare. It will give you a good feel for what it will be like to work in the industry as well as developing your communication, IT, time management and teamwork skills. The GCSE Home Economics (Child Development) is made up of three mandatory units. 

Compulsory Units:

Child Development Short Tasks – Controlled Assessment
Child Study Task – Controlled Assessment
Principles of Child Development - This is an examined unit which includes:

  •  Family and parenting
  • Preparation for pregnancy and birth
  • Physical development, nutrition and health
  •  Intellectual, social and emotional development
  • Community support
