Year 11 students on cloud 9!
Following on from last week’s great A Level outcomes, Brimsham Green’s Year 11 students have been trail-blazers in their own right!
Kim Garland, Headteacher, said, “Yet again, students have surpassed themselves and have achieved more than double the number of top Grade 9s this year – a whopping 26! This is in addition to 68 Grade 8s (an A* in ‘old money’). Brilliant! Most significantly, though, students have made excellent progress in learning over their five years at Brimsham, as a result of their determined hard work and the high quality teaching they have received. Our Progress 8 score has risen again, and by national comparisons we are most definitely a high-performing school.”
Once again English and maths results are extremely strong. Three quarters of the Year Group attained a Grade 4 or above in English/Maths, and over half attained a Grade 5 or above in English/Maths. Achievement in the performing and creative arts was equally strong, testimony to the fact that the school has passionately maintained the breadth of its curriculum.
The school would like to congratulate Jessica Hatherell and Kerry Lewis who are both top attainers and top achievers, getting the highest grades AND making the most progress: a total of 16 Grade 9s and 8s between them. Well done, girls! It’s impossible to single out all of the successes, but special mention must also go to Lucy Sprake, Harvey Rice and Abbie Rees-Bacchus who also secured 21 Grade 9s and 8s between them. Not to be out-done by the girls, many boys made excellent progress this year. Congratulations to all of them, including those topping the progress leader board: Adam Gerrard, Lawrence Northam, Matthew Page, Dominic Rogers and Joe Turner.
Janice Wragg, Chair of Governors, said, “Our students have achieved a fantastic set of results. We look forward to welcoming students back to Cotswold Edge, where we wish them every success in their A Level studies. At Brimsham we recognise the impact of a good education as giving students choice, enabling them to lead successful adult lives in whatever career they wish to pursue. Once again, parents’ support has made all the difference, and I hope they are celebrating with their children today!”
The school’s Open Evening for Year 7 admissions in September 2018 takes place on Thursday, 27th September, starting at 6:00 p.m. More details, including information about our Brimsham Live! Days are available on our website page:
