Our best ever set of GCSE results!
PRESS RELEASE - Thursday 24th August 2017
Brimsham Green School Celebrates their best ever set of GCSE results!
Following on from last week’s great A Level outcomes, Brimsham Green’s Year 11 students have also achieved a record-beating set of results! 63% of students attained at least 5 ‘standard’ passes, including in English and mathematics. Kim Garland, Headteacher, said, “In this turbulent year of changing examinations and grading systems, I am particularly delighted that students have excelled. I am thankful to all staff for maintaining a sense of calm determination throughout this period of change, and clearly they have prepared students very well for the new-style assessments. It bodes well for continued success!”
English and maths results were consistently good, and 74% of all students gained a ‘standard’ pass in these subjects. Despite the increased challenge of these subjects’ examinations, students’ hard work really paid off: almost half of students (48%) secured a ‘strong’ pass in both English and in Maths, which is phenomenal.
This year’s top attainer was Meghan Sell, with 2 Grade 9s, 5 Grade 8s and 4 Grade 7s, closely followed by Bethanie Carriaga (1 Grade 9; 6 x Grade 8s and 4 Grade 7s) and Lucy Durham (1 Grade 9; 5 x Grade 8s and 4 Grade 7s). Well done to the boys, too, including Tom Groves (6 Grade 8s and 4 Grade 7s). We were told Grade 9s, which are higher than A*s, were going to be really elusive, so congratulations to the following students for gaining these in English/Maths: Declan Martin, Millie Barstow, Jack Griffin, Taya Bithell, Michael Pitt, Sumiya Milton, Steph Pick, and Jess Summers who got two!
Kim Garland, Headteacher, said, “Our students have achieved a fantastic set of results, meaning they are really well-prepared for future A Level study at Cotswold Edge, and their Apprenticeship courses. This is the impact of a good education: it gives students choice, and enables them to lead successful adult lives in whatever career they wish to pursue. Parents’ support has been instrumental, and I hope they are celebrating with their children today!”
The school’s Open Evening for Year 7 admissions in September 2017 takes place on Thursday, 28th September, starting at 6:00 p.m. More details, including information about our Brimsham Live! Days are available on our website, www.brimsham.com.
