On Wednesday 23rd May I took ten Brimsham Green Language Leaders to St Mary’s Primary School. This was our first ever visit and it was a huge success! To quote St Mary’s it was, “a very positive experience for everybody”.
Three groups of Brimsham Green students had approximately 30 minutes to teach a lesson to between six and twelve Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, and then had to repeat this twice more. Our students have been working on their lesson plans every Tuesday lunchtime since February and chose their own topics. They taught ‘animals’ in German and ‘food and drink’ and ‘musical instruments’ in French.
The class teacher and Headtaecher were very impressed by the level of maturity and interaction displayed by our pupils – as shown by the feedback I subsequently received, “All of the Brimsham Green students conducted themselves extremely well. I was very impressed with the preparation that had gone into the lessons and also, where they realised that they needed to adapt the sessions, to meet the needs of our pupils. They are a credit to your school and were aspirational to our pupils. I know that our students enjoyed the morning shown by the level of engagement and concentration.”
As Language Leaders co-ordinator I was very proud to see their hard work come to fruition and have been delighted with their commitment to this project.
We are looking forward to future visits and more Language Leaders teaching more topics to more pupils at The Ridge and North Road.
