Cotswold Edge’s Students Celebrate A-Level Success!
Cotswold Edge Sixth Form, the consortium of Brimsham Green School, Chipping Sodbury School and Yate Academy, is delighted to celebrate the combined achievements of their Year 13 students, following the release of their examination grades today.
Kim Garland (Headteacher, Brimsham Green School) said, “Cotswold Edge’s Year 13 students have worked with real determination to achieve over and above their target grades and as a result have made excellent progress. Higher numbers than ever are looking forward to starting challenging university degree courses.” Katherine Turner (Headteacher, Chipping Sodbury School) added, “Students have been able to study a wide combination of subjects at CEDGE, and the results today show that students have really benefitted from our diverse curriculum, which includes the Extended Project Qualification, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award etc.” Izzy Ambrose (Principal, Yate Academy) concluded, “I am thrilled that the partnership working between our three schools has enabled so many students to continue to study locally and exceed their expected grades.”
Brimsham Green students have made fantastic progress over their two years’ of study, once again beating last year’s record performance, especially in the top grades, where 30% of students gained an A* or A. Performance in the Extended Project Qualification, much sought-after by universities, has been exceptional, with 83% gaining an A* or A grade. Congratulations to all those students who achieved their aspirational grades. Kim Garland said, “Once again this year we have students progressing onto really competitive Russell Group University degree courses – students have had to work hard to earn their places. It’s never easy to single out students for particular praise, but I do want to say well done to all students, including those who have gained A*/A and B grades across the board, in many cases studying four or five subjects, and are now embarking on a range of Higher Education courses. These include: Sophie Berkley (University of Manchester, Law) with ABBC; Lucy Durham (University of Manchester, Chemistry) with A*AAA; Tom Groves (Architecture, University of Sheffield) with A*AAB; Molly MacFarlane (University of Birmingham, English Literature) with A*ABB; Declan Martin (University of Surrey, Criminology) with ABBB; Jess Summers (London School of Economics, Criminology) with AAABB; Harry Whitlow (University of Birmingham, Geography) with A*A*A*B. Special mention does need to be given to two phenomenally talented students, Beth Carriaga and Ella Bryant: Beth has accepted an extremely prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to study at Brown University, Rhode Island in the USA, with A*A*AAC; Ella is looking forward to studying Acting at the Oxford School of Drama, rated in the top 5 of acting schools worldwide! Ella achieved A*A*BB.
Looking ahead, students who are currently studying GCSEs and will be entering Sixth Form in September 2020 are invited to attend Cotswold Edge Open Evening, on Thursday, 14 November.
