Applications invited for Uganda 2020

As part of our Global Partnership programme, we are planning a student visit to Kampala, Uganda.

This is to take place at the end of the school year, 2020 and will be our sixth student trip.  Last year’s trip was a huge success and we are very excited about the prospect of taking another group of students to spend time with our partner school.  As was the case last year, the trip next year will be open to our current year 11 and 12 students.

The trip will involve at least five days working in Eaglet’s Primary School and Child Care Primary School, as well as taking over sixty students on safari to the mountainous region of Uganda. Based on the trip in July 2018, we estimate that the visit will cost approximately £2500 per student.  We ask for a £400 deposit and, as in previous years, we expect the remainder of the money to be raised by the students.  The school will do all it can to support the students in their fundraising, but ideas will need to come directly from the group themselves, supported by ideas from home, too.  Last year’s group raised over £30,000.

We want to ensure both students and parents are fully aware of the commitment this trip requires and so we are inviting you to a meeting on Wednesday 13th February at 6pm in the Study Centre.  The application process will begin after this.  Applications will need to be submitted by 3.15pm on Monday 25th February and interviews will take place soon after.  An application form can be accessed here). A staff committee is convened to select which students are offered a place.  When the committee has decided who will take part in the trip, we will contact parents to invite those students and their parents to a further meeting in school. At this meeting (Wednesday 13th March at 6pm, in the Study Centre), we will request the £400 deposit, or a commitment to pay this over a period of time. This money is to secure the student’s place and confirm their commitment to the trip.

Please do not hesitate to contact Ms Hewitt, Ms Revans or Miss Lynett if you have any further questions.  We encourage you to visit our website to find out more (type ‘Hosanna’ into the search box and you’ll find lots of links).

Yours faithfully

Ms Hewitt, Assistant Headteacher
