A-Level Success!

PRESS RELEASE - Thursday 17th August 2017

Cotswold Edge’s Students Celebrate A-Level Success!

Cotswold Edge Sixth Form, the consortium of Brimsham Green School, Chipping Sodbury School and Yate Academy, is delighted to celebrate the combined achievements of their Year 13 students, following the release of their examination grades today.

Kim Garland (Headteacher, Brimsham Green School) said, “I am thrilled that the partnership working of our three schools has enabled so many students to exceed their expected grades.” Mr Millington (Headteacher, Chipping Sodbury School) added, “Students have been able to study a wide range and an exciting combination of subjects at CEDGE, and the results today testify that students have really benefitted from this.” CEDGE students are now about to embark on the next exciting stages of their lives, whether that be taking up university places or beginning apprenticeships. As Paul Skipp (Principle, Yate Academy) concluded, “Our Year 13 students have worked with determination and made superb progress; the excellent support of their teachers has prepared them well for further study.”

Brimsham Green students’ performance is exceptional, and attainment and progress are the highest ever! Kim Garland said, “Incredibly, six students knew before today that they had already secured their first choice university places, regardless of their results, such was the quality of their university applications and interviews – they had all been given unconditional offers. I am glad to say that this didn’t stop these students striving for top grades, however.” Three Brimsham students in particular have excelled: Sam Burney, George Boulton and Cameron Tomasin all gained A*AA! Well done to all students, including those those who have gained A*/A and B grades across the board and are now embarking on degree course: Charlotte Appleyard (Occupational Therapy), Laura Cook (Physiotherapy), Abigail Burrows-Kenway (English), Molly Haselhan (International Development), Joseph Hatherell (Biomedical Sciences), Ewen Keats (Geography), Olivia Pagett (English Literature and Language) and Thomas Short (Mathematics and Physics). Alongside the university-destined students we have students who have secured hard-won apprenticeships. We wish the following students well in their careers: Josh Walker (MOD, finance); Callum MacFarlane (KPMG, accountancy); James Meaden (Renishaw, engineering); and Anna Ryden (Babcock, engineering).

Looking ahead, students who are currently studying GCSEs and will be entering Sixth Form in September 2018 are invited to attend Cotswold Edge Open Evening, on Thursday, 16th November.
